Community leaders

Kay brought up a great idea to get the leaders of our communities (village and town board members) together on a regular basis to discuss issues and bring forth new ideas on how to create a sustainable future for Wisconsin Heights.

community involvement

I think that's a great idea. In general, the district should make an effort to reach out to the community as a whole to reach people who do not have kids in the schools, either because they don't have any kids or because their kids have graduated already. These are folks who may not feel ownership in the schools, yet they know they are being asked to pay for them through their property taxes. What can we do to make the schools more available to the community? I think we should relax a bit on the security issues and whatnot if that's what it takes to make the school facilities more accessible to the community as a whole. We all know that schools are of value to the community as a whole, but those who don't have kids don't necessarily feel as strongly about that. If they could take advantage of the school facilities, they might just come to view themselves as stake-holders. I know we already do some of this, but perhaps we could do so in a more visible manner.

Speaking of visibility, how about running some ads in the Mount Horeb, Sauk Prairie, Middleton (Cross Plains) areas advertising the benefits of smaller schools and the wonderful things we have to offer here? No...I'm not just trying to sell advertising, but we could give the district a heck of a deal.
